There may be thousand of coffee shops in every country around the world, but we doubt there is a cafe similar to the Truth Coffee Company Cafe in Cape Town. This one is different.
As you can see from these pictures, this is not your average cafe.
The coffee shop’s interior design (design by Heldane Martin) was inspired by steampunk, influenced by the imagery of nineteenth-century industry and industrial revolution. There are ornaments everywhere including vintage typewriters, Singer sewing machines and old candlestick telephones. There are also large saw-blade tabletops and the restrooms feature copper pipes, old extending mirrors and victorian tap levers. The ceiling has exposed metal pipes run across the ceiling.
In the centre of it all is the coffee machine. The machine, which was designed by Chris Jones, works on a crank handle and ratchet system, with each cylinder of coffee assigned a lever.
When one of the levers is opened, it opens a series of gates, releasing exactly 225g of coffee into a packet below. Perfect. Now, check out the pictures as they are amazing.
