These are THE coolest doors we have ever seen.
There is no way to describe them. You have to see them first. It is a combination of engineering, design, magic and moving art.
Klemens Torggler’s door is an invention based on rotating squares, The special construction makes it possible to move the door sideways without the use of tracks. This technical trick opens up new applications for the door.
During the development of the doors several solutions were found for connecting the squares efficiently.
System with rods, System with epitrochoid curve, System with triangles, Screen
and 8 panels.
These are some of the systems.
The epitrochoid curve system, which consists of a wheel and a curved track. The wheel moves along this track when the door is set in motion:
The triangle system. In it, the door is split into two halves. Each of those halves is split diagonally, too. The two orthogonal edges that meet in the middle are connected by a mounted to a track which, when put in motion, pull the triangles into a folded position—the weight of which pulls the main edges into position:
Austrian company Klemens Torggler have recently invented the “Evolution Door,” a very cool new door that slides itself open/closed – without the use of tracks. A special system of rotating squares means the door just requires a gentle nudge to close, and then momentum takes care of the rest. Words can’t really explain the cool factor, so check out the video above and another after the break!
